Sick Leave:
The proposed contract also adds sick leave severance language that is currently in the non-
union Employee Handbook and the Public Works/Parks maintenance worker collective
bargaining agreement. The proposed language implements a cap of 960 hours of sick leave
that each employee can maintain in his/her sick leave account.
Section 2 5. 10 of the proposed sergeant's contracts states that an employees terminating in good
standing and has completed twenty (20) or more years of service with the City and has
accrued sick leave in his/her account shall eligible to receive the following contribution by the
City into the Employee's post retirement health saving account plan, subject to the provisions of
such plan.
■ 70% (960 hours to 921 hours)
■ 65% (920 hours to 881 hours)
■ 60% (880 hours to 801 hours)
■ 55% (800 hours to 761 hours)
■ 50% (760 hours to 0 hours)
In exchange for including this language in the collective bargaining agreement, the City was able
to eliminate contract language that allowed staff members to create and maintain a secondary
sick leave account once they had reached the 960 hour threshold.
Compensatory Time:
Both parties also agreed to add compensatory time language in the contract. In lieu of overtime,
Sergeants will be allowed to convert any overtime hours that they work in compensatory time.
The sergeants will be allowed to maintain a maximum balance of 60 hours in their compensatory
time banks at one time. City staff believes that this is a good way for the City to control
overtime expenses in the future.
13.6 Effective 1/ 1 /2010, Employees who are required to work overtime hours will be provided
the opportunity to bank compensatory time in lieu of receiving overtime compensation.
Each Employee will be allowed to maintain a maximum balance of 60 hours of
compensatory time for overtime hours worked. The Employees working overtime will
have the option at the time of filling out his/her overtime card of receiving time off at the
rate of one and one-half (1-1/2) times for each hour worked. The use of compensatory
time, when requested, shall be subject to the approval/disapproval of the Director of
Public Safety or his designee. .
/V
,Schawn P.
