Ms. Hoed replied <br />she was unaware of the six foot allowance. <br />Motion by Commissioner Danger, .seconded by Commissioner McPherson to approve the request <br />with conditions as listed. <br />Approved 6-q Motion Carried. <br />2. City of New Brighton requests consideration of a Zoning Code amendment <br />mending Chapter 10 to reflect the Federal Emergency Management Agency's <br />updated floodplain regulations and revised maps. <br />The City of New Brighton is requesting consideration of an updated and amended Floodplain <br />Management Ordinance (Chapter 10 of the Zoning Code), which includes enactment of revised <br />floodplain maps. new tradition are in response to a mandate by the Federal Emergency Management <br />Agency (FEMA) and are necessary to ensure New Brighton residents can continue to participate in the <br />National Flood Insurance Program, New Brighton historically has adopted the model ordinance required <br />by FEMA, and has not included any additional regulations. Because very few structures exist within the <br />floodplain in New Brighton, use ofthe regulations has been extremely limited. <br />FEMA has been working with the Miregoda Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for several years <br />on conducting a Flood insurance Study and revised Flood Insurance Rate Maps for New Brighton. <br />Actually, all flood maps across the United States have been getting updated over Ne course of five -plus <br />years with more Flood -prone areas having pnonty. The process for New Brighton began in mid -2008. <br />Since then, severed informational open houses have matiou i as well w statutorily required comment <br />periods. At 0ds point, the maps we considered final and communities most amct revised floodplain <br />ordinances referencing Ne revised maps prior to June 4, 2010. If this deadline is not met, New Brighton <br />will no longer be able to participate in the National Flood Insurance Program, meaning residents located <br />within floodplain meas will not be able to obtain flood announce. 1978 and 2010 maps were compared, <br />little change was noted. The recommendation is for the City Council to adopt the updated and amended <br />Floodplain Management Ordinance reflecting updated Flood Insurance Rate Maps. <br />Commissioner McPherson asked if the criteria has changed, Ms. Gundlach stated the criteria is based on <br />elevatiow primarily.
