-3—
The Department Happenings will continue to be in Parks, Recreation and
• Environmental Commission packet and available for the Public via the City
website. Breuer will no longer present a Power Point on these items, but will
highlight a few things.
We hired a Forestry Intem, Jim Veiman. He started April 30th. He is working
specifically on the Emerald Ash Borer project. We hope to get information out at
the Town Hall meeting. We have a lot of education that we need to be doing. We
are trying to do some of the things that were done previously by the Forester, but
we are not able to do everything. Breuer thanked the 5 tree volunteers that helped
Chris and Sandy with the tree sale. Tom Trevorrow was one of the 5 that helped
and Breuer wanted to specifically thank him.
Breuer stated that the following Saturday, April 24th they held the Arbor Day
celebration at Hansen Park, at 9:00 a. m. by the wildflower area. One of the
donated trees was for our previous forester, Rick Wriskey. Rick was there and
helped plant his own tree. Previous Council member Sharon Doffing donated the
tree.
Breuer stated that as part of the tree sale, we asked people if they would like to
donate a tree. We had 11 donated trees. Eight were planted on the Friday before
Arbor Day. Breuer passed around copies of the Sun Focus which had photos and
an article on the event shown on the front page. Breuer stated she would like to
continue to do this in the future.
• Breuer stated that we are fortunate enough to get Rob Gorden to come back and
do the Emerald Ash Borer presentation at the Town Hall meeting. Breuer is
working on getting other agencies such as DNR, Department of Agriculture and
University of NN Extension to hand out material at the Town Hall meeting.
Breuer stated we have "Get Active" week this week. We have an open house
planned this Sat., May 8th.
Breuer said that next month at the June meeting we will have an update on the
skateboard park. Officer Hamdorf has been asked to give an update.
Breuer stated that we will also have the Storm Water Prevention Plan. Kerry
Thorne will do the presentation and have a question and answer session at the end.
Breuer stated that the Storm Water Prevention presentation portion of the meeting
is required to be video taped. So, just that portion of the meeting next month will
be video taped.
Frischman stated that originally, the skate board park information was on cable. If
it started on cable, it seems logical to continue with the video.
• Breuer stated that in June we talk about whether there will be a July meeting.
Harreld asked if there is something the City can do to help clean up the creek at
Hansen Park.
