MINUTES <br />New Brighton Economic Development Commission Approved <br />Regular Meeting — June 15, 2010 <br />7:30 a.m. <br />Members/Liaisons Present: Gina Bauman, Mark Nelson, Dennis Flahave, Tern Snell, Marie <br />Hansen, and D.L. Beach <br />Members/Liaisons Absent: Bob Benke, Bob Smith, Ruben Vasquez, and Mike Murlowski, <br />Staff Present: Grant Fernelius, Community Development Director; Katie Bruno, Office <br />Assistant. <br />Call to Order <br />Commissioner Nelson called the meeting to order. <br />Approval of Minutes <br />Motion by Commissioner Flahave, seconded by Commissioner Hansen to approve the May 18, <br />2010 minutes. <br />5 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Motion Approved. <br />Report from Council Liaison <br />Councilmember Bauman reported the Town hall meeting went well. The topics included <br />• Emerald Ash Borer, and a Northwest Quadrant update. Council continues to look at the 2010 <br />and 2011 budgets. Street reconstruction projects include a joint project with the City of St <br />Anthony for Sliver Lane, and a few regular scheduled street reconstruction projects. <br />Northwest Ouadrant Report <br />Housing To <br />Director of Community Development announced a second development tour is scheduled for <br />Monday, June 21st. The purpose of the tour will be to look at development projects that may be <br />an opportunity for New Brighton. One of the locations will be Applewood Point in New <br />Brighton, United Properties has indicated the Senior Co-op market is tough currently, with a <br />certain number of pre -sales being required. The Villages of North Branch will be visited, this <br />facility offers Senior Housing, Independent Living options and some Assisted Living options all <br />in the same building. The third site to be visited is a Stuart Company project in St Paul. <br />Developer Discussion <br />Director Fernelius reported two of the five developers expressed the most interest, Dunbar and <br />Stuart Companies. Director Fernelius reported if proposals were submitted he would share it <br />with the EDC for council recommendation. <br />Marketing <br />Staff has been discussing the hiring of a Broker to assist in marketing the site. It was reported <br />speculative building is not occurring, all has been user driven. <br />• Rebranding <br />The City has received a total of more than 30 entries from the public for the NWQ Naming <br />Contest. Staff will provide the full list of entries at the July EDC meeting. <br />Councilmember Bauman questioned if New Brighton is aware of the status of the TCAPP site. <br />
