Councilmember Bauman stated she understand the entire site is available for $35 million.
Director Femelius reported he has not heard anything regarding the bidding on the site, and they
are still several years away from development.
• Old Highway 8 Maintenance
Director Femelius reported the Northwest Quadrant Boulevard is in need of maintenance. It was
the City's hope that developers would be there to maintain the area. City Staff will be meeting to
determine the City's staffing ability to maintain the area; it may be required to hire a landscaping
firm for assistance.
Trio Solvent Delistine
The MPCA has finally de -listed the former Trio -Solvent site from the State's superfund program.
This regulatory effort removes one more barrier to future development on the west side of the
NWQ. The MPCA began enforcement actions against the previous owners in the early 1980's
after both soil and groundwater contamination was discovered. Some of the soil was cleaned up
by the City in 2007.
Commissioner Nelson questioned if there are any remaining Superfund sites in New Brighton.
Director Femelius stated there is the Northwest Refinery site, remnants of the McGillis & Gibbs
site, and a couple areas behind Dalco.
Other Topics
Railroad Wye
Staff continues to work with Canadian Pacific on the railroad wye project. The negotiations are
focused on two documents: 1) an easement from the CP to the City for the wye track and 2) a
construction agreement between the parties. Progress was made late last week and our hope is to
. finalize these issues in the next couple of weeks. The goal is still try and complete the project in
2010.
Director Femelius reported the City was able to secure a $1 million grant from the State in 2006.
One condition was that the track be publicly owned, in order to do so, the City needs to obtain an
easement. It is not a typical request, and has taken a long period of time. Director Fernelius
reported he has been working on this project since 2004, this is a critical year; if the agreements
are not in place by January 2011 the City would lose funding.
Schedule
Director Femelius suggested the EDC consider not meeting in August depending on agenda
items. It was determined to further discuss the August meeting at the July meeting.
Adiournment
Motion by Commissioner Flahave, seconded by Commissioner Nelson to adjourn.
5 ayes, 0 nays.
Motion Approved.
• The meeting adjourned at 8:19 a.m.
