COMMISSION/COMMITTEE ORGANIZATIONAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES .Economic Development Authority The New Brighton Economic Development Authority (EDA) was established in 1993. Minnesota Statutes, Sections 469.090 through 469.108, authorizes cities to establish Economic Development Authorities (EDA) with specified powers and obligations to promote and to provide incentives for economic development. The Economic Development Authority is comprised of the Mayor and four City Council members. Planning Commission This seven member commission advises the City Council on all city land use planning matters. Duties include the development and maintenance of the New Brighton Comprehensive Plan, carrying out procedures directed by the City Council and making recommendations to the Council. The Planning Commission meets monthly on the third Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Planning Commission Members: • Bruce Howard (Chair) • James Alvey • Steve Danger • Erin Nichols Matkaiti • Verne McPherson • Norman Schiferl 0 • Paul Zisla • David Phillips (Council Representative) • Janice Gundlach (Staff Liaison) Parks, Recreation, and Environmental Commission This nine member commission advises the City Council on the proper use and care for parks and the natural environment and advises on policies covering recreational activities of the City. Issues relating to the Family Service Center also come under the duties of the commission. The commission meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month.
