COMMISSION/COMMITTEE ORGANIZATIONAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITES <br />.Economic Development Authority <br />The New Brighton Economic Development Authority (EDA) was established in 1993. Minnesota <br />Statutes, Sections 469.090 through 469.108, authorizes cities to establish Economic Development <br />Authorities (EDA) with specified powers and obligations to promote and to provide incentives for <br />economic development. The Economic Development Authority is comprised of the Mayor and <br />four City Council members. <br />Planning Commission <br />This seven member commission advises the City Council on all city land use planning matters. <br />Duties include the development and maintenance of the New Brighton Comprehensive Plan, <br />carrying out procedures directed by the City Council and making recommendations to the Council. <br />The Planning Commission meets monthly on the third Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. <br />Planning Commission Members: <br />• <br />Bruce Howard (Chair) <br />• <br />James Alvey <br />• <br />Steve Danger <br />• <br />Erin Nichols Matkaiti <br />• <br />Verne McPherson <br />• <br />Norman Schiferl <br />0 • <br />Paul Zisla <br />• <br />David Phillips (Council Representative) <br />• <br />Janice Gundlach (Staff Liaison) <br />Parks, Recreation, and Environmental Commission <br />This nine member commission advises the City Council on the proper use and care for parks and <br />the natural environment and advises on policies covering recreational activities of the City. Issues <br />relating to the Family Service Center also come under the duties of the commission.
