Economic Development Commission <br />This nine member commission advises the Council on matters concerning industrial and <br />commercial development for the City. The commission meets at 7:30 a.m. on the third Tuesday of <br />0 h month. <br />Economic Development Commission Members <br />• Mark Nelson (Chair) <br />• D.L. Beach <br />• Bob Benke <br />• Dennis Flahave <br />• Marie Hansen <br />• Mike Murlowski <br />• Terri Snell <br />• Bob Smith <br />• Ruben Vazquez <br />• Gina Bauman (Council Representative) <br />• Grant Fernelius (Staff Liaison) <br />Civil Service Commission <br />The Civil Service Commission is a three member committee that meets at least once a year to <br />consider the hiring and promotion of police officers. It also serves on as -needed basis for hearings <br />on disciplinary actions. <br />Civil Service Commission Members: <br />• Bill Kerns <br />• Cindy Ketola <br />• Ory Kraus <br />• Bob Jacobson (Staff Liaison) <br />Public Safety Commission <br />This nine member commission advises the Council on matters related to the goals, policies and <br />operations on public safety functions and human rights issues and fulfils the responsibilities and <br />obligations of a Police Civil Service Commission, pursuant to the terms and provisions of MN Laws <br />1929 Ch. 299 (MN Statutes, Chapter 419 et seq, as amended). Duties include assisting the police <br />and fire divisions in such activities as assessing community concerns relating to public safety <br />issues, developing long range strategic plans, developing and monitoring achievement of <br />performance measures. Also included are duties relating to participation in regional human rights <br />organizations and advising the Council on efforts to create equal opportunity and eliminate <br />discrimination within the City of New Brighton.
