Members of <br />the City Council will appoint individuals to serve on a committee. The City Council will provide <br />the committee with a time frame to complete their assigned task. A committee may be disbanded <br />by a majority vote of the City Council at any time. <br />Commission/Committee Member Expectations <br />The residents and businesses of the City of New Brighton are entitled to have fair, ethical and <br />accountable local government. Such a government requires that public officials: <br />-Comply with both the letter and the spirit of all laws and policies that affect the operations of the <br />City of New Brighton. <br />-Be independent, impartial and fair in ones judgment and actions. <br />rUse their public office for the public good, not for personal gain. <br />-Speak publicly as a group, do not editorialize as individuals. <br />-Conduct public deliberations and processes openly, unless legally confidential, in an <br />atmosphere of respect and civility. <br />To this end, the City of New Brighton has created this overview of a commissioner/ committee <br />member's roles and responsibilities to encourage public confidence in the integrity of local <br />government and its fair and effective operation. <br />Roles and Responsibilities <br />1. Act in the Public Interest -Recognizing that stewardship of the public interest must be their <br />principal concern, everyone shall work for the common good of the City of New Brighton and not <br />for any private or personal interest, and they will endeavor to treat all persons, claims and <br />transactions in a fair and equitable manner. <br />2. Comply with the Law -Everyone shall comply with the laws of the United States, the State of <br />ANIMinnesota and the City of New Brighton in the performance of their public duties.
