Report Number 11-062 <br /> Dp��T Agenda Section VI-4 <br /> the city thaDnl s for y u Council Meeting Date February 22,2011 <br /> REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br /> ITEM DESCRIPTION: Consideration to Authorize Purchase of 2011 Non-Fleet Equipment— <br /> Water Heaters for the New Brighton Community Center. <br /> DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: Sandy Breuer,Director of Parks an reation <br /> CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br /> No comments to supplement this repo OP' Comments attached <br /> Recommendation: Authorize the purchase . r nstallation of water heaters for the New Brighton <br /> Community Center and approve the bid submitted by Kramer Mechanical Plumbing&Heating. <br /> Legislative History: <br /> None. <br /> Financial Impact: <br /> Replacing water heaters at the New Brighton Community Center with high efficiency tankless water <br /> heaters will decrease energy costs for the facility. <br /> Explanation: <br /> The New Brighton Community Center currently utilizes four 75 gallon water heaters. Two are located on <br /> the west side of the building to heat the locker room showers and west restroom sinks,two are located <br /> centrally in the community center to heat water for sinks throughout the remainder of the community <br /> center and the kitchen. <br /> The average life expectancy of water heaters is 8-10 years. The water heaters in the community center <br /> are from original construction of the facility in 1994,now on their 171h year of service. In late 2009,one <br /> of the centrally located water heaters stopped functioning. <br /> Staff solicited three bids for replacement with three different options. The quotes are below: <br /> Replacement Option Kramer Mechanical Commercial Plumbing NAC Mechanical& <br /> Plumbing&Heating &Heating Electric Services <br /> Replace with same $25,000 $25,600 $33,566 <br /> Replace with high $36,300 $33,400 Not submitted <br /> efficiency tanks <br /> Replace with tankless $24,000 $23,900 Not submitted <br /> heaters, includes small <br /> storage tank for <br /> circulating pump. <br /> Bids were reviewed by the Facilities Manager of the Parks and Recreation Department along with the <br /> Chief Building Official of the Community Development Department.
