April26, 2011 <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br />Dean Lotter <br />'City Manager Lotter reported the League of Minnesota Cities is seeking applications from cities <br />for an `Excellence is Service Award". Mr. Lotter reported New Brighton will be submitting an <br />application recognizing the volunteers in the community, in addition to submitting an <br />application for the cooperative effort between Ramsey County and New Brighton for the library <br />relocation. It was reported favorable feedback was received regarding the recent Town Hall <br />meeting. <br />Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Bauman reported the Economic Development Commission has been reviewing <br />proposals from two development and broker teams for the NWQ; recently rebranded to "New <br />Brighton Exchange." Appreciation was expressed to commissioners Benke, Flahave, Nelson <br />and Vazquez. The cable commission scholarship committee recently awarded 11 scholarships. <br />Mary Bur¢ <br />Councilmember Burg announced Friday April 291h, Parks and Recreation employees, along with <br />students from Bel Air Elementary School will be planting trees is Hansen Park in observation of <br />Arbor Day. Councilmember Burg announced the New Brighton Historical Society will be <br />recognizing the original farm families from the City. A resident suggested a community garden <br />be considered. <br />David Phillips <br />Councilmember Phillips attended the recent Planning Commission meeting; it was reported one <br />'of the items relating to a Pet Cremation business has been tabled to the May 170, meeting. <br />It was noted the consent agenda included an item officially changing the name of the New <br />Brighton Family Service Center to The New Brighton Community Center. <br />Char Samuelson <br />Councilmember Samuelson reported the Public Safety Commission will next meet April 28th. <br />The City of New Brighton recently conducted an emergency exercise focusing on severe <br />weather responses. Residents were encouraged to sign up for email notifications in order to <br />receive crime alerts in a timely manner. <br />Mayor Jacobsen <br />Mayor Jacobsen reported he is hopeful the New Brighton Library will be open sooner than the <br />original anticipated date of December 2011.
