April26, 2011 Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates Dean Lotter 'City Manager Lotter reported the League of Minnesota Cities is seeking applications from cities for an `Excellence is Service Award". Mr. Lotter reported New Brighton will be submitting an application recognizing the volunteers in the community, in addition to submitting an application for the cooperative effort between Ramsey County and New Brighton for the library relocation. It was reported favorable feedback was received regarding the recent Town Hall meeting. Gina Bauman Councilmember Bauman reported the Economic Development Commission has been reviewing proposals from two development and broker teams for the NWQ; recently rebranded to "New Brighton Exchange." Appreciation was expressed to commissioners Benke, Flahave, Nelson and Vazquez. The cable commission scholarship committee recently awarded 11 scholarships. Mary Bur¢ Councilmember Burg announced Friday April 291h, Parks and Recreation employees, along with students from Bel Air Elementary School will be planting trees is Hansen Park in observation of Arbor Day. Councilmember Burg announced the New Brighton Historical Society will be recognizing the original farm families from the City. A resident suggested a community garden be considered. David Phillips Councilmember Phillips attended the recent Planning Commission meeting; it was reported one 'of the items relating to a Pet Cremation business has been tabled to the May 170, meeting. It was noted the consent agenda included an item officially changing the name of the New Brighton Family Service Center to The New Brighton Community Center. Char Samuelson Councilmember Samuelson reported the Public Safety Commission will next meet April 28th. The City of New Brighton recently conducted an emergency exercise focusing on severe weather responses. Residents were encouraged to sign up for email notifications in order to receive crime alerts in a timely manner. Mayor Jacobsen Mayor Jacobsen reported he is hopeful the New Brighton Library will be open sooner than the original anticipated date of December 2011. A steering committee for "One Book, One Community" is being sought; interested parties were asked to contact City Hall.
