The February stats were reviewed. Part I crimes are down so far in 2011. Council Liaison Council Report Council Representative Phillips noted city staff has been busy with the Library plan and parking issues. The NW Quadrant will now be called New Brighton Exchange. Council Representative Phillips noted an issue with Stuart Companies and an old pollution certificate filing. The filing is not specific to a site so it clouds the title. City staff continues to work on resolving this issue. With the expiration of commission terms, the Public Safety Commission will be down to 5 members. Please encourage residents to apply for open commission seats as the City has not received enough applications to fill the openings. Old Business Live Smoke Free The Commissioners briefly discussed the Live Smoke Free initiative that was presented at last month's meeting. Commissioner Schumann made a motion to drop all discussion of the City's consideration of any Live Smoke Free initiative and send a resolution to the City Council reflecting a unanimous vote for Council to not consider any smoking restrictions for private property within New Brighton. Commissioner Woods seconded. Motion carried. New Business Commissioner Terms Commissioner Kerns' and Commissioner Tollefson's terms are both up and they have both served the three term limit. Commissioner Haring has decided to resign due to time conflicts. Election of Chair for 2011-12 Commissioner Kerns made a motion to nominate Commissioner Allen to serve as the Chair; Commissioner Woods seconded. Motion carried. The departing Commissioners are thanked for their time and participation serving on this commission. They will be recognized at an upcoming Council meeting for their service. Commissioner Allen will be the Chair of the Public Safety Commission as of April 1st. If you know of anyone interested in serving on a City Commission, please have them apply.
