Worksession Materials
1,4)
 CITY OF NEW BRIGHTOI .
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
MEMORANDUM
DATE: February 25, 2011
TO: Dean Lotter, City Manager
FROM: Grant Fernelius, Community Development Director GC--
SUBJECT: March 1st Work Session on NWQ Names
Introduction
As you recall, over the last two years the City has considered a new name for the
Northwest Quadrant. At first, the City hired the Risdall Marketing Group (RMG) to
develop a new name, logo and marketing tag line. After a year long process of talking
with developers and other community stakeholders, RMG devised three concepts:
Larkspur Crossing, Infinity on Old 8 and New Gate. At work session in the spring of
2010, the Council reviewed these names and decided to go a different direction. A
contest was then announced seeking input from residents and business owners.
NWQ Naming Contest
A total of 123 names were submitted from 33 different individuals. In August, the EDC
reviewed this list was asked to identify their top 6 choices. This process reduced the
potential field of entries from 123 to 18. In September, the EDC then rated their top 3
choices (assigning 3 points for their top choice, 2 points for second, etc.) Of the 18
names, 7 survived the EDC cut:
Long Lake Crossing (7 pts)
Brighton Landings (6 pts)
Brighton Crossing (4 pts)
Brighton Shores (4 pts)
Lake Park Pointe (1 pt)
Lakeview Commons (1 pt)
Long Lake Ridge (1 pt)
The EDC forwarded this list of names for Council consideration. There really has not
been time to discuss the names with Council, since our collective attention has been
focused on The View apartment project.
