pity of
Report Number 11-216
N HTO Agenda Section VI-7
the city that works for you Council Meeting'Date August 9, 2011
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: CONSIDERATION OF CITY PROJECT 11-15, SUNNYSIDE PARK
AND 1759 LONG LAKE ROAD STORM SEWER RECONSTRUCTION.
DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL:
CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: `,
piNo comments to supplement this report Comments attached
Recommendation: To authorize City Pri io
11-15, Sunnyside Park and 1759 Long Lake Road Storm
Sewer Reconstruction and allow the Public Works Director to solicit quotes for this project.
Legislative History:N/A—This is an emergency repair.
Financial Impact: This project is estimated to cost$115,224.
Explanation:
Sunnyside Park
Staff identified several sink holes within Sunnyside Park, and determined that the existing
corrugated metal storm sewer has deteriorated and no longer is able to maintain its structural
integrity. Additionally, the existing pipe flows under a park shelter and the driveway of 2539
Eastman Drive. The planned improvements will reroute the storm sewer to avoid/limit structural
conflicts and allow improved access for any future maintenance issues. During the plan
preparation it was noted by staff that the existing neighborhood center roof drainage creates a
freezing problem at its northeast corner during the winter months. The existing roof
drainage/down spouts will be redirected to a new yard drain. The proposed improvements
include the installation of 524-feet of storm sewer pipe, 3 storm sewer manholes, and bituminous
removal/replacement.
1759 Long Lake Road
Staff identified a sink hole in the rear yard of 1759 Long Lake Road, and determined that the
construction joint where the existing concrete storm sewer pipe transitions into corrugated metal
pipe has failed. Further review of the inspection tapes indicate that the existing corrugated metal
pipe also has visible deflections between the sink hole and where the pipe discharges to the lake.
The planned improvements will remove the existing corrugated metal pipe and a small segment
of concrete pipe,to allow for the construction of a new manhole and 140-feet of new storm sewer
pipe.
Costs and Funding: The total cost of this project will paid for from Fund 421, Capital Storm Sewer
Fund.
Sunnyside Park 1759 Long Lake Road
Engineering Estimate $64,356 $22,935
In-house Engineering&Admin(22%) $14,158 $5,046
Project Contingency(10%) $6,436 $2,294
Total: $84,950 $30,274
c
Craig G chlichting,P.E.
Civil Engineer II
Attachment— Plans dated 7-29-11
Engineering Estimate
