August 9, 2011 Page 4 of 5 <br />Councilmember Phillips suggested staff look at the condition of the current storm sewer, <br />possibly scheduling routine replacement. Director Wyffels agreed. <br />' Motion by Councilmember Phillips, seconded by Councilmember Burg to authorize City Project <br />11-15, Sunnysquare Park and 1759 Long Lake Road Storm Sewer Reconstruction and direct staff <br />to work on a feasibility report to identify corrugated storm sewers in the City, and to bring a <br />report back to the Council by January 2012. <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reminded the communitZ that New Brighton Stockyard Days is August 7- <br />15; noting the parade is Thursday August 12` . Mr. Lotter reported he has met with residents <br />from a neighborhood affected by the July 16th rain event, noting Director Wyffels is having an <br />engineering firm looking at some of the problem areas in the city. <br />Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Bauman reported the Planning Commission meeting scheduled for August 16th <br />has been cancelled, due in part to Volunteers of America withdrawing their request. <br />Councilmember Bauman attended the Cable Commission meeting, she reported Comcast is <br />'offering computer subsidies for students qualifying for reduced lunch, there hasn't been <br />interest expressed yet. <br />Mary Bur¢ <br />Councilmember Burg reported the Public Safety Commission next meets September 20h at <br />6:30 pm. National Night Out was reported as a success; noting 135 parties, with almost 6,000 <br />attendees. Special appreciation was expressed to Officer Trevor Hamdorf for his efforts. It <br />was reported the Police Reserves along with Volunteers in Public Safety are expected to log <br />many hours as they assist with Stockyard Days events. <br />David Phillips <br />Councilmember Phi11l1ps reported there was a Parks Recreation & Environmental Commission <br />meeting on August 3 , the strategic plan was reviewed. Council will participate in a park tour, <br />along with the PREC commission Wednesday, September 71h. Residents were reminded of the <br />garage door monitors available at City Hall. <br />Char Samuelson <br />Commissioner Samuelson reported the EDC next meets August 16th at 7:30 am. It was <br />reported that the Dairy Queen located at 2200 Silver Lake Road will donate 30% of their <br />proceeds through the month of August to the Ramsey County Library. <br />'Mayor Jacobsen <br />Mayor Jacobsen reported the Friends of the Library continue to fund raise to provide additional <br />amenities at the library located at the Community Center.
