-2-
VI. Announcements
A. Council Report—Council Member Phillips
• August will be the first look at the budget for next year. They will be
getting a revised proposal from Dean Lotter, City Manager.
• The new project is well underway up in the New Brighton Exchange.
• At the next meeting we will prepare for the budget. By the first meeting
in September we have to set the maximum levy and then the first
meeting in December, we certify the actual levy. We can't exceed any
amount that we set in September. We want to fund our capital assets.
We want to continue to provide the services. We have really worked
hard to prioritize.
B. Chair Updates
Frischman said she had some awesome comments about the Parks and
Recreation catalog with the City newsletter attached to it. People have
made an effort to communicate that to me. Breuer commented that it is our
first combined edition with the City Newsletter and Parks and Recreation
brochure and done for cost saving measures.
C. Department Happenings /upcoming events
Breuer went through the items under the five focus areas:
• Improving Health
• Protecting Natural Resources
• Fostering Healthy Youth Development
• Sustaining Fiscal Responsibility
• Supporting Community Reinvestment
Breuer wanted to inform the Commission of our annual shut down. The
Community Center will be closed for 4 days the Tuesday following Labor
Day through that Friday. Some of the projects are as follows:
• We are running new fiber optics due to the addition of the library.
• Tuesday and Wednesday, the building will be in a black out. No
computers or phones.
• Redoing the carpeting in meeting rooms upstairs, all of the offices,
gym ramp and fitness center.
• Painting, buying new tables and chairs for the meeting rooms.
• Every staff person will need to be moved.
• We are also resurfacing the gym floor(including sanding down to the
bare wood).
• We are also upgrading our Class software system.
