Commissioner Beach asked if there is money available for cleanup costs. Director Fernelius reported
that if the State sees a responsible party it will expect them to pay for clean up costs.
Commercial Marketing Activities
Director Fernelius reported that Colliers and Welsh merged August 1, 2011. Ryan recently met with the
City Council. Ryan has completed a concept plan for marketing purposes; which meets the Northwest
Quadrant code and includes about 25% more commercial development than originally planned.
Director Fernelius reported that as development proposals are received they will be shared with the EDC
for review.
Other Topics
Director Fernelius reported that in the upcoming year he would like to talk about and establish
development guidelines, especially in the New Brighton Exchange area.
Chair Zisla stated he would like to see the EDC be productive—noting there are many aspects that the
EDC will always do—filter information, comment, and look at redevelopment. Commissioner
Neumann-Walker suggested surveying current businesses in New Brighton. Director Fernelius noted
that the Chamber of Commerce has done some recent surveying, and suggested the City partner with
them if interested.
Director Fernelius suggested small personal meetings with the Mayor; an EDC Commissioner and a
staff member. Commissioner Snell thought personal meetings with businesses would provide a good
networking opportunity; noting she would prefer a personal meeting to a survey.
Commissioner Smith suggested Colliers could organize a business meeting.
Chair Zisla commented that the scope would likely strengthen the relationship between the City and the
business community.
Commissioner Neumann-Walker stated that the current business owners might have an advantage on
knowing what type of future business would be beneficial.
Chair Zisla suggested Director Fernelius send an e-mail to the commissioners asking questions related to
their perception of the role of the EDC.
Adjournment
Meeting adjourned at 9:05 am.
