City of New Brighton Police Civil Service Commission <br /> Commission Meeting Minutes <br /> May 17, 2011 <br /> Attending: Commissioner Ketola, Commissioner Kerns, Assistant to the City Manager <br /> Johnson, Director Jacobson <br /> Absent: Commissioner Kraus <br /> Roll Call/Call to Order: <br /> At 5:00 pm on May 17, 2011, the Police Civil Service Commission meeting was called to <br /> order by the Chair, Commissioner Kerns. <br /> Approval of Minutes: <br /> Commissioner Ketola motioned and was seconded by Commissioner Kerns to accept and <br /> approve the minutes from the previous meeting of March 16, 2011. The motion was <br /> approved. <br /> Review and Approval of Police Officer Hiring Process <br /> Director Jacobson reviewed the current staffing levels for the Police Division. Current <br /> budgeted staffing is for 27 sworn police officers. With the retirement of Officer Mary <br /> Bitzan the Police Division is at 26 sworn police officers. The City Manager has given <br /> approval to proceed with a hiring process. <br /> Assistant to the City Manager Schawn Johnson explained the proposed hiring process <br /> which would include advertising with our legal newspaper, on line with the POST Board, <br /> League of MN Cities and City of New Brighton web site. The written test, a Stanard <br /> exam, will be scheduled for June 11th and interviews would be held in late June or early <br /> July. The Civil Service Commission would then be asked to certify the list of <br /> candidates. One opening will be held for the interview panel when scheduled for a Civil <br /> Service Commission member should they choose to participate. <br /> After discussion, Commissioner Ketola motioned to approve the process. Commissioner <br /> Kerns seconded and they voted to approve the hiring process for police officer. <br /> Old Business <br /> None <br />
