Public Safety Commission <br /> June 29, 2011 <br /> Attending: Commissioner Allen, Commissioner Benke, Commissioner Donohue, <br /> Commissioner Kroll, Commissioner Lamp, Commissioner Schumann, <br /> Commissioner Woods, Council Member Burg, Director Jacobson, Charlie <br /> LeFevere (City Attorney) and Dave Matteson(Allina Medical) <br /> Absent: Commissioner Bredenbeck, Commissioner Hollimon <br /> Citizens: Long Nguyen <br /> Call to Order/Roll Call <br /> Commissioner Allen called the June meeting to order at 6:33 pm and roll call was taken. <br /> May Meeting Minutes <br /> The May meeting minutes were reviewed. Commissioner Lamp motioned to accept the minutes; <br /> Commissioner Woods seconded. Motion carried. <br /> Public Hearing/Presentations <br /> A. Open Meeting Law—Charlie LeFevere, City Attorney <br /> Mr. Charlie LeFevere, City Attorney, distributed handouts regarding the Open Meeting Law. He <br /> reviewed Chapter 13D of the Minnesota Statutes regarding Open Meeting Law and also <br /> reviewed information from the League of Minnesota Cities regarding the Open Meeting Law. <br /> After reviewing the handouts, there was some discussion and questions were answered. <br /> Updates <br /> A. Citizen Corps Council <br /> Director Jacobson noted the Public Safety Commission is the Citizen Corps Council for the City <br /> of New Brighton; serving as the advisory role for volunteer programs. <br /> Officer Hamdorf has applied for a grant to fund CERT training. <br /> Department Reports <br /> A. Human Rights <br /> Director Jacobson reported that members of this commission did meet with the victim from the <br /> reported bias crime. Since this meeting, the victim has been evicted from their apartment. <br /> Commissioner Woods noted the need for a Human Rights protocol for when these issues arise. <br />
