• Mississippi St. is already marked on the map as a bike lane. It just
needs signage all the way over to Long Lake Road. That would be
easier than having to go to New Brighton residents to say we are
taking away street parking to add bike paths.
• Is the Commission getting too specific? We just need to say we
want signage on Mississippi Street and the methodology can be
decided by the Council.
• If we want to make the connection from Mississippi St. to Long
Lake Road, you are still dealing with the County. We don't need to
get bogged down with whose jurisdiction it is,just make the
recommendation.
This is the third priority for connectivity:
3. A continuous bike route from Fridley on Mississippi Street
taking people through New Brighton to Long Lake Road on
Mississippi Street.
• There were a couple other areas that we had talked about on the
south side of New Brighton; such as County Road E.
• County Road E was just resurfaced.
• Arden Hills has a nice trail system and it would be nice to connect
to them.
MOTION BY FRISCHMAN, SECONDED BY WEBER, TO
APPROVE THE THREE PRIORITIES. MOTION CARRIED.
VIII. Announcements
A. There was some Public Safety
issues going around at Pike Lake in the Palmer Drive area. There was a
community meeting. People were concerned about speeding in that area.
Samuelson thanked everyone for their commitment.
B. Chair Updates
Frischman stated she attended the Green Streets Commission meeting that
was held in Roseville and it talked Complete Streets and Green Streets. It
is interesting to see the number of communities that are jumping on board
with this. One of the challenges is that so far there are no Council's that
have recommended that their city be a part of the Complete Streets.
Everyone seems to be waiting for MNDOT to jump in. MNDOT is doing
tests of Complete Streets in three different areas. One is on Snelling which
runs from 694 to south of Hamline. Also on Hwy 65 (Central) and another
on Highway 61.
Complete Streets is the idea that you are building streets to benefit all
different factions; not just vehicle traffic. It includes pedestrians, bikes,
6
