January 24, 2012 Page 4 of 4 <br />Mary Butz <br />Councilmember Burg reported the Public Safety Commission next meets January 30th. Director <br />of Public Works Grant Wyffels will be present to discuss traffic concerns in the Pike Lake <br />area. A blood drive was held January 11th. Congratulations were extended to Officer Ed <br />'Sypniewski, who will be receiving the "Outstanding Service to Youth" award from Northwest <br />Youth & Family Services at the February 9th Awards Dinner. Also recognized was Reserve <br />Officer of the Year, Mike Tester, who donated 957 hours in 2011. <br />Char Samuelson <br />Councilmember Samuelson reported that the EDC met January 17th , the February meeting will <br />focus on developing criteria for potential developers. <br />Mayor Jacobsen <br />Mayor Jacobsen reported that One Book, One Community will be hosting Will Steger at the <br />New Brighton Library. Also noted was that Irondale High School will be implementing <br />"Pathways to Success;" an early college program, allowing high school students to earn a two <br />year Associate's Degree. <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported that he attended the PREC meeting on January 4th. The <br />commission has been looking at trails, bikeways and walkways. The next meeting is scheduled <br />for February 1, 2012. Residents were reminded to check the availability of the ice rinks by <br />calling 651-638-2130.
