• 20 units of blood were collected at the January blood drive. <br /> • VIPS members assisted with a recycling day that was held at New Brighton Ford. <br /> • VIPS have continued to distribute flyers at LA Fitness to deter thefts from auto. <br /> • There will be a new CERT class starting March 1. Contact Officer Trevor Hamdorf if <br /> interested in attending. <br /> • CPR/AED training for the VIPS will be done next month. <br /> • VIPS are preparing to sell bike helmets again this year when the weather gets nicer. <br /> • VIPS continue to fingerprint people every Thursday morning. <br /> D. Public Safety/Homeland Security Update <br /> The December police statistics have been completed and we continue to experience a significant <br /> drop in Part One Crimes including an 18% drop in Part One Crimes from 2010 to 2011 and a <br /> nearly 60% drop since 1995 when we started doing National Night Out and Neighborhood <br /> Policing. <br /> Public Safety finished 2nd in the nation for National Night Out for 2011. This is the 17th <br /> consecutive year in the Top 25; the 12th consecutive year in the Top 5 in the nation; and the 12th <br /> consecutive year as first place in our category in Minnesota. We have had two first place <br /> finishes in the Nation(2005 and 2009). <br /> Community Emergency Response Training(CERT) is scheduled for every Thursday starting on <br /> March 1st and continuing for eight weeks. The training is from 6 to 9 pm at the Public Safety <br /> Center. Applications and information are on the City web site. <br /> Flywheel Hockey will be playing in a tournament on March 3rd and 4th at the Super Rink in <br /> Blaine. The team is coached and managed by Officer/Firefighter Tom Griffin. We need to <br /> collect$1500 in donations to participate. Director Jacobson will send out an e-mail with the <br /> tournament information and how you can donate; flyers were also distributed. <br /> On January 20th, Irondale High School hosted a Town Hall meeting which was attended by <br /> numerous dignitaries to include U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Governor Mark <br /> Dayton, Senator Amy Klobuchar and Commissioner of Education Brenda Cassellius as well as <br /> numerous other local and state elected officials and Supreme Court Justice Alan Page. The <br /> meeting was held to discuss and celebrate Irondale's distinction of becoming the first"early <br /> college high school" due to an agreement with Anoka Ramsey Community College. <br /> Neighborhood Meetings will be each Thursday night in February at the Neighborhood Centers. <br /> Topics will include updates on New Brighton Exchange, the flooding from last summer and a <br /> public safety update. The next meeting is Thursday, February 2nd at Totem Pole Park. <br /> Officer Scott Kingslien and Officer Tom Nerison have both completed their field training <br /> program and are now on their own. Detective/Officer Mitch Singer was formally promoted to <br /> Sergeant and began his new duties as of January 1st <br /> Council Liaison <br /> A. Council Report <br /> No report. <br />
