Call to Order <br /> The meeting was called to order by Chair Olson at 7:40pm <br /> II. Members present: <br /> Kathryn Brewer, Don Heinrich, Kay Kinzie, Doris Ocel, Dorri Olson, Chris <br /> Sykes, Tom Trevorrow <br /> Also present: Staff persons, Steve Rymer, Mike Walker, Mary Burg, new <br /> Council member George Gregori and Silver Oak area residents. <br /> Members absent, Dave Koubsky, Council Rep. Arlyn Gunderman <br /> III. Minutes of December 3, 1997 <br /> Minutes of December 3, 1997 were approved as submitted. <br /> IV. Correspondence <br /> A. Council Report <br /> None <br /> V. New Business <br /> A. Silver Oak Development <br /> Anderson made some introductions of staff. <br /> Anderson gave background to the Silver Oak issue. In the late 70's St. <br /> Anthony School Board decided to sell Silver Oak School. The City of New <br /> Brighton invested in playground equipment at the school and asked if some <br /> of the property could be purchased as a park. The remaining property was <br /> sold to a developer and the school was changed to townhouses. The <br /> property the townhouses were built on had two tennis courts. The <br /> agreement was that when the area was developed, the tennis courts would <br /> be replaced on Silver Oak Park, financed by the developer. The courts do <br /> not have to be at Silver Oak Park but anywhere in the New Brighton Park <br /> system. Silver Oak residents decided at a Parks, Recreation and <br /> Environmental Commission meeting on September 6, 1995 that the tennis <br /> courts should go in the picnic shelter area (the Parks and Recreation <br /> • Department had heard resident complaints of smoking, drinking and <br /> vandalism in the picnic shelter area.) . New Brighton City Engineers laid <br /> out three different scenarios for tennis court Iocations. The City was hoping <br /> to lay the courts in the upper NW part of the park. It became apparent that <br /> the berm, and water main would be exposed if the courts went in that <br />
