New Brighton Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission 6
Minutes of January 7, 1998
is not included in numbers. It would be relatively cheap in cost but
still more. Elevator would not be needed because of the the kind of
111 use the upper level is getting. The remodeled clubhouse shows
heavy posts on the outside, and a stucco building which could be
changed if desired.
There would not be any delay in building new vs. remodeled. May
have to close in October however to complete it by spring.
Some mature trees would have to be removed if a new building was
built.
The architect said the building is structurally sound and the usable
life is the same remodeled or new.
Some wondered if there would be any potential surprises with the
remodeling.
Anderson said we hired an architect to avoid that.
Some trees would be lost if remodeled, but more if built new
There was some discussion about relocating another City
Department or renting space at the building but the City does not
want to get into the rental business and it is not likely there is a City
Dept would move there and if something were there, it could not
generate a lot of traffic.
Ocel said she would like to see a nicer building; maybe spend a
little more money and make it really nice.
There was some difference of opinion on whether it would be worth
• it to build new to get the extra parking; some did not feel the extra
cost was worth the 19 parking spaces and felt that the church option
would suffice and maybe an electronic sign stating lot was full
would help the situation
Want to make sure there is storage for athletic associations if a new
clubhouse is built.
Anderson said he will bring this back in February and will ask for
Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission decision at that
time. If you feel strongly about a stucco exterior, let us know. If
you think $250,000 is too skimpy and you would like to see
something nicer, let us know that.
D. Rice Creek North Master Plan
A trail north into Lino Lakes is being proposed by Ramsey County. It is a
trail that would be well used, there is no cost to the City. The New
Brighton City Council will be considering it in January.
There is no negative impact of this trail for the City of New Brighton.
MOTION BY KINZIE, SECONDED BY OCEL, TO APPROVE THE
RICE CREEK TRAIL CORRIDOR MASTER PLAN AS PROPOSED.
MOTION CARRIED.
