Agenda Section: V I I I-1
CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON
Report Number: 9 7-180
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
• Report Date: August 8th, 1997
ITEM DESCRIPTION: PROPOSAL FOR KARI LANE FLOODING ANALYSIS STUDY
DEPT. HEAD'S APPROVAL:
MANAGER'S REVIEW/RECOMMENDATION: di)
No comments to supplement this report Comments attached
EXPLANATION/SUMMARY {attach supplemental sheets as necessary)
The purpose of this item is to recommend approval of the attached proposal from Barr Engineering Company for
an analysis of the flooding problems that occurred on Kari Lane and Long Lake Road in July. A description of
the proposed analysis and a cost estimate are attached. Ramsey County has agreed to pay 50% of the cost of the
study and the City share is proposed to be paid from the Storm Water Utility Fund.
On July 16, 1997, a meeting was held at City Hall with residents from the flood area, the Mayor and City
Manager, Kathy Jaschke from Ramsey County Public Works and myself Past efforts by the City and County to
alleviate flooding in this area have not been successful. It was determined at the meeting that a comprehensive
dialysis of the Kari Lane/Long Lake Road drainage system was needed. A proposal and cost estimate was
tained from Barr Engineering for the study because the City has other existing contract arrangements with Barr
and they are able to undertake and complete the work in the shortest possible time.
The flooding analysis and report will be completed and presented to Council for consideration at the first Council
meeting in October, 1997.
RECOMMENDATION
To APPROVE THE PROPOSAL FROM BARR ENGINEERING COMPANY FOR AN ANALYSIS OF THE FLOODING
PROBLEMS AT KARI LANE AND LONG LAKE.
Lam `
Leslie Proper, P.E.
Director of Public Works
S
11E NG]NEE MEN G1-97-C C\RE P 0 RTSIKAR I STDY.WP D
