Abuse. The second session on Reporting Elder Abuse will be held Monday, April 23, from 3:00- <br /> 5:00 pm at the Shoreview Community Center. <br /> The MN League of Human Rights Commissions is trying to revive their newsletter which would <br /> communicate information about local commissions and League activities and resources. If any <br /> Public Safety Commission members would like to be in this e-mail list,please let Commissioner <br /> Kroll know. <br /> Commissioner Kroll also reported they discussed resolutions on the voter ID amendment, <br /> bullying,bias/hate crimes, and immigration issues. Commissioner Kroll noted the members of <br /> the Human Rights sub-commission and asked if anyone else is interested in creating a protocol <br /> for responding to allegations of hate/bias crimes. Commissioner Lamp stated she is interested. <br /> The Human Rights Sub-commission members (Commissioners Kroll, Woods, Schumann and <br /> Lamp)will meet before the next Public Safety Commission meeting to begin writing this <br /> protocol. <br /> B. Allina Medical <br /> Nothing further to report. <br /> C. Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) <br /> Commissioner Woods reported the Volunteers in Public Safety(VIPS) continue with their <br /> normal activities. The CERT classes are going on right now; there are 22 people attending this <br /> session. The VIPS will have their monthly meeting tomorrow night. <br /> D. Public Safety/Homeland Security Update <br /> Director Jacobson reported Sgt. John Kaiser has announced his retirement as of March 17, 2012. <br /> Sgt. Kaiser began his career with New Brighton on June 7, 1993 and has served in numerous <br /> areas to include Police Officer, Use of Force Instructor, Field Training Officer, Detective, and <br /> Sergeant. Sgt. Kaiser also helped to coordinate the Shawn Silvera Memorial Run. <br /> On March 19, we made an arrest for solicitation for prostitution of a 21 year old female. Officers <br /> located a male suspect and also located a female victim who was being held against her will for <br /> about 3 weeks. On March 21, the suspect, Larry Darnell Lake, 34 years of age from New <br /> Brighton,was formally charged with three felonies to include Solicitation to Practice <br /> Prostitution, Promotion of Prostitution, and Receiving Profit Derived from Prostitution. All <br /> three counts are 15 year felonies and bail was set at $100,000. <br /> Council Liaison <br /> A. Council Report <br /> Council Member Burg noted the following items: <br /> • The Neighborhood Meetings were recently completed. <br /> • The Town Hall meeting was last Saturday, March 24, and was well presented. <br /> • Commission appointments are now limited to 4 consecutive terms. Commissioners can <br /> always go to another commission and the policy language regarding absences was <br />
