C Report Number 12-122 BRIGHTON itAl�� Agenda Section VI-4 Council MeetingDate May22, 2012 the city that works for you REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION ITEM DESCRIPTION: CONSIDERATION OF QUOTES AND AWARD A CONTRACT FOR CITY PROJECT 12-3, TENNIS COURT REHABILITATION DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: (inw CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: No comments to supplement this report Comments attached Recommendation: Accept the quotes award a contract for City Project 12-3, Tennis Court Rehabilitation to Upper Midwest Athletic Construction for the Alternate Quote of $42,128, plus an additional amount of$8,256 for Armor Crack Repair at all courts for a total amount of$50,384. Legislative History: On April 4, 2012, staff presented the project to the Parks, Recreation & Environmental Commission(PREC). Financial Impact: The following three quotes were received for this project on May 14, 2012: Base Quote with Standard Alternate Total Quote with 800 Crack Repair and Single LF of Armor Crack Repair and Court Color Dual Colored Court Upper Midwest Athletic $31,800 $42,128 Construction Lee Sport Surfacing LLC $36,520 $49,520 Court Surfaces and Repair $37,200 $55,100 The engineer's estimate for this project was $45,000. A tabulation of the quotes has been completed by the Engineering Department and is attached to this report. The lowest quote submitted by Upper Midwest Athletic Construction, has not done work for the City in the past, but has done similar work in other communities, and is qualified and capable of performing work of this kind and magnitude. If awarded,work is anticipated to start June 4, 2012 and will be completed by August 10, 2012. Explanation: The City of New Brighton is requested quotations for the rehabilitation for all 8 of our tennis courts at the following locations: Hansen Park 1555 5th Street NW 2 courts Built 1992 Silver Oaks Park 1550 29th Avenue NW 1 court Built 1999 Freedom Park 2121 14th Street NW 2 courts Built 1983 Hidden Oaks Park 340 Oakwood Drive 2 courts Built 1983 Totem Pole Park 1111 Foss Road 1 court Built 1983 This project will consist of cleaning, crack repair, resurfacing and re-striping all 8 tennis courts. Due to lack of funding,the courts have not been reconditioned since they were originally built. All of the courts are in need of repair. City staff will remove and replace existing nets/supports as needed prior to resurfacing. The Freedom and Hidden Oaks courts have concrete panels in the center that have heaved, creating an uneven playing surface. These will be removed and restored with asphalt by City staff.
