Deputy Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, will be the featured <br /> speaker. Senator Amy Klobuchar will be sending in a video thank you. <br /> The Suburban Ramsey County Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Community Program will be formally <br /> "proclaimed"by Governor Dayton on May 17th at the St. Paul Saints game at 7 pm. Also,New <br /> Brighton is sponsoring an event which will be a welcome home reception for returning Sergeant <br /> Timothy Miller. The welcome home reception is joint effort with Parks and Rec and Public <br /> Safety and will be held at Freedom Park on Saturday, May 12, from 9 am to noon. The family <br /> will be picked up in a fire truck. Parks and Rec organized the refreshments and decorations. All <br /> Public Safety Commissioners are welcome to attend. <br /> On April 14th the annual Fire Banquet was held at the Mermaid. Captain Mike Schute, who also <br /> works for Parks and Rec, was recognized with the 2011 Firefighter of the Year Award and <br /> Deputy Director Tony Paetznick received an Excellence in Training Award for all of his work <br /> with the group of 9 new firefighters in getting them thru all of their training needed during their <br /> first year. Deputy Director Paetznick was nominated by these new firefighters. Firefighter <br /> Charlie Prasek received the Golden Pager award for the highest response percentage in 2011. <br /> Recent retirees Brian Goodwin and Steve Nerheim were recognized for their service and <br /> presented with their retirement watches. <br /> Council Liaison <br /> A. Council Report <br /> Council Member Samuelson noted the following items: <br /> • At the last Council meeting, salary increases for non-union employees was discussed. It <br /> was a long meeting. <br /> • The city"Shredding Day"will be on May 5. <br /> • The Northwest Youth& Family Services (NYFS) Leadership Lunch will be on <br /> Wednesday, May 2. <br /> • Commissioner Woods has been appointed to stay on the Public Safety Commission as <br /> the VIPS Representative. The Public Safety Commission will now have 10 members. <br /> • The New Brighton Rotary distributed trees to the 4th graders on Friday for Arbor Day. <br /> Old Business <br /> No old business. <br /> New Business <br /> No new business. <br /> Adjourn <br /> Commissioner Bredenbeck motioned to adjourn the April 2012 Public Safety Commission <br /> meeting; seconded by Commissioner Donohue. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 8:06 <br /> pm. <br />
