D. Department Happenings /upcoming events
Breuer highlighted a few of the Department Happenings such as:
• Fitness Open house in May resulted in 21 new
memberships.
• Tree donation from the Ramsey County tree sale that New
Brighton partnered with came from Commissioner Fields.
The tree was planted at Hansen Park.
• Summer programs have started or start next week.
• Partnered with churches in a volunteer Weekend of Service
(WOS). Had 42 volunteers. Work done here at the NBCC,
most park signs were repainted, maintenance/storage sheds
were painted at Brightwood Hills.
• New Brighton Parks and Recreation received an award
from Minnesota Recreation and Parks Association in the
category of partnerships. That was for the collaborative
partnership with the library. Twenty eight nominations
were received and 11 were selected to receive an award.
• New Brighton is part of the Beyond the Yellow Ribbon
campaign for military families. Park and Recreation staff
Jen Nolan and Jason Hicks assisted Public Safety with the
planning of a welcome home party for a returning
serviceman. The two department staff members helped with
the party by providing a neighborhood center facility,
collecting donations for the party, food and other items.
Public Safety had a fire truck on location and other
activities to welcome home Major Timothy Miller of New
Brighton.
• Each year High Schools hold their all night parties for
seniors here at the NBCC. We had Irondale's last evening.
St. Anthony's is here next Friday.
• Tennis Courts are being repaired— 8 of them. City staff
took out the concrete and then the resurfacing will take
place between now and August 10th. They will be painted
with two colors of green. Trees will be removed from
Silver Oaks, Freedom, and Hidden Oaks. As part of this
project we asked that pickleball lines be added. It is a
relatively new sport. Lines will be added at Hansen and
Hidden Oaks. Pickleball is a combination of tennis, table
tennis and badminton. Our department will be offering
lessons in the future.
XI. Adjournment
MOTION BY JERED WEBER,SECONDED BY ALYSSA LUNDBERG, TO
ADJOURN AT 7:23 P.M.
