Financial Impact:
GameTime notified the City on August 27 that the City had been awarded a matching grant in the amount of
$32,380. The grant covers '/2 of the cost of the playground structure (this does not include the cost of individual
pieces)that the committee has chosen. A fifty percent match is required from the City. Grant funds must be pre-
paid for a full matching grant. Projects must ship prior to December 31, 2012 in accordance with the terms of
the grant.
Explanation:
Playgrounds have an expected life of 15 years on our Capital improvement Budget(non-fleet replacement plan).
Hansen playground is 17 years old and was scheduled to be replaced in 2011. This equipment is old and is showing
its age and needs to be replaced. Hansen Park is New Brighton's signature Park and the new equipment will be a
wonderful addition to Hansen. The committee is planning a community build on a future Saturday and plans to
install this playground this fall.
Costs and Funding:
The quotes include the cost of the playground structures; stand-alone play features(swing posts, swings & chains,
Net Climber, Sky Runner, Tire Swing and Tot Discovery Cave which are not part of the matching grant offer),
freight, and taxes; and the grant(discount) amount. The committee finalized their decision on GameTime based on
the quality of equipment, high number of play features, notification of receiving the grant funding and their desire
to get the best value for their money. There is $72,100 budgeted in the non-fleet replacement budget to replace
Hansen Playground. Park Dedication funds will be used to pay the difference ($4,719.94) between the total cost
and available funds in the capital fund.
GameTime Costs Freight Ground Grant Total Cost to
and Tax Materials Awarded (total City
saved by City)
Playground $64,760 $7,338.70 $47 (owners kit) $32,380 $39,765.70
Structure
Stand Alone $29,787.63 $3,366.61 $3,900 D/A $37,054.24
Equipment
TOTAL: $76,819.94
0/
Chris Wolla
Parks Superintendent
