Allina is the first ambulance service in the nation to put this regulator, which is now FDA
approved, into service.
Last Saturday, Allina ran a disaster drill at Federal Cartridge; the scenario was a two bus crash
and then an Amtrak collision. It was a really good drill and was good to work together with so
many different agencies. This drill really tested the ability to communicate and it was flawless.
Mr. Matteson reported Allina Medical will change its name to Allina Health EMS with new
patches, a new logo and new graphics.
C. Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS)
No report.
D. Public Safety/Homeland Security Update
Director Jacobson reported Officer Trevor Hamdorf has been deployed twice this month to assist
other Agencies in need. He assisted the Sartell Fire Department with the Verso Paper Mill fire in
early June. And he is now assisting Carlton County in their EOC helping them with the flood
operations. Carlton County and Duluth will coordinate debris clearing this Sunday thru Tuesday.
The New Brighton Department of Public Safety passed the century mark and have now run 102
marathons after Firefighter Andy Vik, Firefighter Matt Farmer and Director Jacobson completed
Grandma's Marathon.
Det. Sypniewski began his duties as our newest Detective on June 1st. One of his first cases was
the bank robbery at US Bank. He is working with the FBI and the investigation is continuing;
there are good photos of the suspect and we have leads.
The Fire Division collected more than $11,000 in three days of"Fill the Boot"with those
donations going to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Brian Crocker coordinated the event.
Eleven members of Public Safety ran in the annual Law Enforcement Torch run; proceeds
benefit the Special Olympics. Officer Ted Layton coordinated our participation. New Brighton
DPS had the most number of runners for an agency of our size.
Officers Tom Griffin and Matt Voeller and Allina paramedics assisted in the delivery of a baby
boy. A Stork Award will be coming soon!
Commissioner Bredenbeck noted on the Criminal Activity report that burglaries are up and
hazardous moving violations are up. Director Jacobson noted the increase in burglaries is
usually due to a garage door being left open so he would like to remind people to take
precautions against these crimes. The increase in hazardous moving violations is due to officers
being active working traffic; but some of this increase is due to grant funded programs.
Council Liaison
A. Council Report
