They stayed until 11pm so no one <br /> would walk on the new tee-pads. Twenty asphalt tee pads came out <br /> and 20 concrete pads went in. There were about 35 very dedicated <br /> volunteers from this organization. This group comes from all over <br /> the Twin Cities. There is a varied age group. <br /> Wolla also stated there was a National Guard group of 47 that <br /> came in and stained the neighborhood center and the bridge. They <br /> also pulled buckthorn. They worked from 8am—3pm. Department Happenings/upcoming events <br /> Breuer highlighted some of the activities: <br /> • 90 day fitness pass—sold 23 this summer/17 in 2011. <br /> • 55 +programs. Seeing increase in numbers in some of <br /> those programs; Lunch and Learn being one of those. <br /> • Read to Play program 465 certificates redeemed throughout <br /> the year plus an additional 206 paid admissions. 19 schools <br /> participated. 42 classrooms signed up for next year. <br /> • National Guard volunteer(47), at Hansen <br /> • Ramsey County Library. Six month(Jan-June) statistics; <br /> about 55,000 visits. New library cards up 51%, computer <br /> log-ins up 125%,wireless use up 141%. Computer use <br /> nearly tripled from their previous location. Before the <br /> library opened last year New Brighton Community Center <br /> attendance was up 13%. Right now at the end of June this <br /> year our attendance is up 29%. <br /> • New Brighton Parks and Recreation applied for a grant <br /> from the United States Pickleball Association which was <br /> for $250. We will purchase two sets of nets. This fall we <br /> will offer(for youth and adults) a program to teach you <br /> how to play. You can register for$9. We will also have <br /> some non-prime time available at the Community Center <br /> gym. Two tennis courts have pickleball lines on them; <br /> Hansen and Hidden Oaks. <br /> • Fourth Thursday of every month the Dairy Queen on Old <br /> Hwy. 8 donates to our scholarship fund from their profits. <br /> This year they have donated$288. They have also donated <br /> almost $800 in softball t-shirts. <br /> 3 <br />
