o VIPS members participated in a water rescue scenario with Stillwater Fire Department, <br /> Lakeview Ambulance, Hudson Hospital,New Richmond Hospital, Lakeview Hospital, US <br /> Coast Guard, and Washington County Emergency Management. Over 350 volunteers <br /> participated in this large scale exercise. <br /> D Public Safety/Homeland Security Update <br /> Director Jacobson reported Firefighter Ed Schneider has retired after 32 years of service and <br /> Firefighter Scott Vaughn has retired after 20 years of service. Both will continue to volunteer <br /> their time with some events. <br /> The school year has started and is off to a good start. This year, we have two SRO's in the <br /> schools: Officer Tom Griffin is in his second year at Irondale High School and Officer Kim <br /> Boyd is in her first year at Highview Middle School. <br /> We are pleased to report that 2,345 lbs. of food was collected at National Night Out parties!! <br /> Director Jacobson reported the New Brighton US Bank was the victim of a robbery in June <br /> where the suspect was a female, which is unusual. This same female is suspected of robbing a <br /> bank in Superior, Wisconsin and was arrested in St. Croix Falls while robbing a bank there. <br /> Council Liaison <br /> A. Council Report <br /> Council Member Samuelson reported the Council continues to work on the 2013 budget. The <br /> max levy is set at 1.39%but Council's goal is to chisel this down to a flat levy increase. <br /> City staff continues to work with interested parties for the New Brighton Exchange area. <br /> Old Business <br /> A Human Rights/Bias Crime Response Guidelines/Protocol <br /> Director Jacobson stated he would email this information out to the commission to get any input <br /> before a final discussion is held at next months meeting. <br /> Tobacco Model Ordinance Update <br /> Director Jacobson noted this is tentatively scheduled for discussion at the October 23rd Council <br /> Work Session. The prohibition of indoor sampling is the biggest concern. <br /> Also at that Work Session, we will discuss the assignment of an officer to the Ramsey County <br /> Drug Task Force. <br /> New Business <br /> A. Commissioner Input—Roles and Responsibilities <br /> Director Jacobson reported the Roles and Responsibilities for Commissioners will be updated in <br /> either April or May and there may be some training on these updates at that time.
