Mr. Dave Matteson reviewed some goals that Allina Health has for the coming year; they <br /> include: Patient Care Initiatives, CPAP for respiratory distress, pain management, STEMI for <br /> heart attack patients, Stroke, Hi-Risk/No Transport, and Take Heart America and Heart Safe <br /> Communities. To accomplish these goals, it will take a multi level effort from the public,to the <br /> first responders, to EMS, to the hospitals. <br /> Mr. LaCroix noted New Brighton lead the way in embracing Heart Safe Communities and <br /> became the first community in the state of Minnesota to be designated"Heart Safe." <br /> Mr. LaCroix then spoke about some contemporary issues such as who your First Responders are <br /> should be a local decision; there should be local control and accountability for ambulance <br /> service; the use of Community Paramedics to "fill the gaps"to ensure patients are getting the <br /> follow-up care and appointments they need; and finally, the impact of the Health Care Reform <br /> Initiatives on Allina Health. <br /> Updates <br /> A. Human Rights <br /> Commissioner Kroll reported the MN League of Human Rights Commissions met at Roseville <br /> on Sunday, Sept 23. Topics included revision of bylaws, budget planning for 2013,planning for <br /> annual meeting December 1, soliciting nominations for their annual human rights award. <br /> Some upcoming events include the Collaboration among Northern Ramsey County <br /> Commissions: Roseville and Maplewood Human Rights Commissions will hold a public <br /> education forum on the proposed Voter ID amendment on Tuesday, October 9 and on the <br /> proposed marriage amendment on October 23. Both forums will take place at Maplewood City <br /> Hall at 7 p.m. <br /> Brooklyn Park Human Rights commission and Hennepin Technical College present a program <br /> related to bullying on Nation Unity Day, October 10, 7 to 9 p.m., at Hennepin Technical College. <br /> The program will feature two films about bullying issues and Sandra Smith, Diversity and <br /> Inclusion Chair, Minnesota PTA, will be the special guest speaker. <br /> B. Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) <br /> Commissioner Woods noted the following items: <br /> a VIPS continue to do the fingerprinting on Thursday mornings. <br /> a VIPS assisted with the Blood Drive that was held September 5th; 31 pints of blood were <br /> collected. <br />
