Presentation/Update <br /> from Ramsey County <br /> Ramsey County Sheriff Bostrom provided the Council with a presentation on the events taking place at sheriff Matt Bostrom. <br /> Sheriff's Department and appreciated the continued partnership with the New Brighton Public Safety <br /> Department. He discussed the core mission of the Sheriff's Department,which included work in the County <br /> courts,patrol services along with safety on the waterways. He was pleased with the joint training that would <br /> be completed in the near future which would assist with coordinating crime scene investigation County-wide. <br /> Sheriff Bostiom indicated the Ramsey County Sheriffs website provided a great deal of information on the <br /> department's mission while also describing the various units within the department. He commented on the <br /> newly formed Criminal Justice Coordinating Counsel and how this group was working to address concerns <br /> across the County. He explained the department was working to increase communication with the public and <br /> was always seeking feedback from the public. <br /> Sheriff Bostrom encouraged all to attend the Fright Farm off of White Bear Avenue. He noted all proceeds <br /> from the event would be used to serve the youth of Ramsey County. He then thanked the Council for their <br /> time this evening. <br /> Mayor Jacobsen requested further information on the crime trends taking place in the County. Sheriff <br /> Bostrom discussed these matters further noting the same level of arrests was being maintained while the <br /> length of incarcerations were on the rise. He stated heroin use was on the rise,along with the use of <br /> prescription drugs. The County was also assessing and diagnosing mental health issues more frequently. He <br /> described the concerns the department had with active shooters. He noted his department was evaluating this <br /> information to see how it would affect the department going forward. <br /> Councilmember Jacobsen thanked Sheriff Bostrom for the information presented this evening. <br /> Councilmember Samuelson agreed and asked how many officers were employed by Ramsey County. <br /> Sheriff Bostrom explained his department had between 400-420 employees,with 200 being sworn officers. <br /> He commented there were approximately 400 volunteers serving the County as well. <br /> Councilmember Burg also thanked Sheriff Bostrom for his efforts on behalf of the County. <br /> Mayor Jacobsen thanked Sheriff Bostrom for attending this evening and for providing an update to the <br /> Council. <br /> Consent Agenda <br /> Consent Agenda <br /> 1.
