• The Parks and Rec. Dept. is using one of the courts up at
Highview as a pickleball court in the evening. At the
Community Center we have daytime pickleball.
• October was a very busy month for us with volunteers. We
had 246 volunteers. They volunteered 791 hours. Total hours
for Oct. were 1,115 hours.
• The Community Center is getting some improvements to the
west end. We have put in an ADA ramp. Actuated doors will
be put in. The trees, shrubs and the whole area will be
cleaned up.
• October 29, 2011 was the start of the Ramsey County Library
in the New Brighton Community Center. Through October
2012, we had 398,800. In 2011 that number was 385,000.In
comparing 2012 attendance to 2011 attendance (Jan 1-Oct.
29), the New Brighton Community Center has seen 85,876
more visitors to the facility.
• Parks and Recreation will be going to the Planning
Commission on November 20th for the land use application
for Subway coming to the New Brighton Community Center.
If it is approved, it will go to the City Council for approval in
December. If everything goes well, it would take about 60-90
days. Hopefully by April 1st. Subway would go in on the east
side of Guest Services. They would utilize parts of the
kitchen. Their hours would be similar to ours. Their busy
times would be breakfast, lunch and dinner. They are
estimating that 70-80 percent of their clientele would already
be here in this building.
• Read to Play. In September about 100 kids redeemed their
coupons. Last year in October the coupons generated $80.
This October it was $467 with people paying and coming
with the free child.
Council Member Jacobsen asked if we are still at the maximum
with birthday parties. Assistant Director West responded yes. We
are hosting about 20 parties on a Saturday and about 15 on a
Sunday.
IX.
