Recognition ofretiring <br /> Detective Gary Sykes. <br /> Director of Public Safety Jacobson recognized Detective Gary Sykes for his 33 1/2 years of service to the City <br /> of New Brighton. He indicated that Detective Sykes was highly regarded as a detective in the community. <br /> Mayor Jacobsen presented Detective Sykes with a proclamation and those present offered a round of <br /> applause. <br /> Detective Sykes thanked the City of New Brighton for allowing him to serve as a Police Officer. He was <br /> proud of the work he completed for the City. He noted he has purchased a home in Arizona where he and his <br /> wife would be retiring. <br /> 2. Recognition of retiring Firefighter Ron Finney,Jr. 2. Recognition ofretiring <br /> Firefighter Ron Finney,Jr. <br /> Director of Public Safety Jacobson recognized Firefighter Ron Finney,Jr.for his 10 years of service as a paid <br /> on-call firefighter for the City of New Brighton. Mayor Jacobsen presented Firefighter Finney's father with a <br /> proclamation and those present offered a round of applause. Firefighter Finney,Sr.thanked the Council for <br /> this recognition. <br /> 3. Public Safety Commission Annual Report <br /> 3.Public Safety <br /> Commission Annual <br /> Robert Allen,Chair of the Public Safety Commission,provided the Council with a presentation. He Report <br /> discussed the purpose and responsibilities of the Public Safety Commission. The accomplishments of the last <br /> year were reviewed in detail. Mr.Allen discussed the actions taken by the Human Rights Commission. He <br /> was proud to report that New Brighton held 140 parties for National Night Out,which was the 13th <br /> consecutive year New Brighton was in the top five. He then thanked all the volunteers for working to better <br /> the community. <br /> Councilmember Burg thanked Mr.Allen for serving on the Public Safety Commission and for his report this <br /> evening. <br /> Councilmember Samuelson appreciated Mr.Allen and all the information he provided this evening. <br /> Councilmember Jacobsen thanked Mr.Allen and the Public Safety Department for their dedication and <br /> investment to the community. <br /> 4. Planning Commission Annual Report. 4.Planning <br /> Commission Annual <br /> Bruce Howard,Planning Commission Chair,provided the Council with a yearend review. He discussed the Report <br /> role of the Planning Commission noting the group met eight times in 2012 and processed 20 land use cases <br /> last year. Highlights from the projects were discussed in detail. Mr.Howard then discussed issues that would <br /> be dealt with in 2013. He thanked the Council and Staff for their continued support <br /> Councilmember Samuelson indicated she was really excited about the developments taking place in New <br /> Brighton. <br /> Councilmember Bauman commented she serves as the liaison to the Planning Commission and she <br /> appreciated their service to the community. <br /> Councilmember Jacobsen thanked Mr.Howard for his leadership. He appreciated the discussion and <br /> recommendations made by the Planning Commission. <br /> Councilmember Burg appreciated the work of the Planning Commission stating their recommendations <br /> greatly assisted the City Council. <br /> Mayor Jacobsen thanked Mr.Howard and the entire Planning Commission for their service to the City. He <br /> anticipated the coming year would be quite busy for the Planning Commission given the redevelopment <br /> beginning to take place at The Exchange. <br />
