It is unknown when the totem pole was originally designed and installed. In <br /> 2011 the former totem pole was removed from the park due to it having rotted out at the base. <br /> The Scout,Matthew Justin,presented his projects to PREC on July 10t1i PREC unanimously approved the projects <br /> and is recommending that Council approval the projects. <br /> Financial Impact: <br /> The City of New Brighton's costs for this project would be as follows: <br /> •New landscape fabric and engineered wood fiber$3,000. <br /> •New concrete base and light for new Totem Pole$700. <br /> •The new Totem Pole will be paid for by fundraising by the Scout. <br /> Explanation: <br /> Matthew Justin is from Troop#93, is requesting to complete the following projects in Totem Pole Park to earn his Eagles <br /> Scout Badge: <br /> • Remove the hockey boards;this project is in the 2013 Parks work plan. <br /> • Remove the wood chips from the playground area, dig down 12inches,add fabric and new wood chips to prevent <br /> weeds;this project is in the 2013 Parks work plan. <br /> • Replace the Totem Pole with a new Totem Pole. <br /> As part of the project Mr.Justin will maintain the totem pole for three years; after that time the city will assume <br /> responsibility. <br /> Costs and Funding: <br /> The cost of the new Totem Pole was $3,000 and is to be done by a professional wood carver,the wood carver reduced <br /> the price to$1,500 when he found out it was an Eagle Scout project. Mr.Justin will be doing fundraising to pay for the <br /> cost of the new Totem Pole. The$3,000.00 for new fabric and wood fiber will come out of our operating budget since it <br /> was a project scheduled to be done this year.
