June 11, 2013 Page 6 of 7 <br />in the North Metro Mayor's Association for the next budget cycle. <br />Councilmember Burg questioned if the Council wanted to consider membership for 2013 or wait until 2014. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked if the City had funds available in the 2013 budget City Manager Lotter <br />stated funds were not available for 2013 but dollars could be set aside for 2014. <br />3 Ayes, 2 Nays (Bauman and Mayor Jacobsen opposed )-Motion Carried <br />Consideration of Membership to I -35W Coalition. Report No. 13 -140 <br />City Manager Lotter stated at the June 4th Council work session members of the Council <br />directed staff to add this item to Council Business for the purpose of discussing and <br />considering membership to the I -35W Coalition. <br />Mayor Jacobsen did not see the value of this organization as the City has not seen any changes <br />to this corridor even after promises are made. <br />Councilmember Burg stated it would benefit the City to be a part of a variety of organizations <br />working to better the community. <br />Motion by Councilmember Burg, seconded by Councilmember Samuelson to approve membership <br />in the I -35W Coalition for the next budget cycle. <br />3 Ayes, 2 Nays (Bauman and Mayor Jacobsen opposed)-Motion Carried <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reported the League of Minnesota Cities Conference would be held next <br />week. He encouraged the Council to consider attending the pre- conference work sessions. <br />Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Bauman reported the Cable Commission recently met and presented <br />scholarships to four New Brighton students. She stated Comcast was continuing to review the <br />contract and has been in contact with the FCC regarding their rates. She updated the Council <br />further on the negotiation process. She noted the Public Safety Commission would meet again <br />on Monday, June 24th at 6:30 p.m. <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported he attended the Ramsey County League of Local <br />Governments meeting in May. The topic discussed was partnering with schools and Mr. <br />Hoverman was in attendance. He thanked Director Jacobson for attending a fundraiser last <br />night for Beyond the Yellow Ribbon. He noted the next Beyond the Yellow Ribbon event <br />would be a concert at North Heights on June 23rd at 5:00 p.m. He noted the EDC would meet <br />on Wednesday, June 18th at 7:30 a.m. <br />Char Samuelson <br />Councilmember Samuelson reported Park and Recreation has been focusing their discussions <br />on ballfields in New Brighton Exchange.
