July 23, 2013 <br />Page 3 of 6 <br />chainsaws and maintained the ability for a safe flow of traffic. He reported the New Brighton Community <br />Center suffered a total power outage along with the majority of our community. Facilities Manager Jason <br />Hicks responded and worked numerous hours with onsite presence and efforts to restore generator power to <br />the facility. Parks and Recreation staff also assisted rental customers with finding other venues for their <br />gatherings. Staff worked diligently with a wedding party customer providing portable generators for lighting <br />and worked with Public Safety for the use of ovens to warm the catered food for the event. <br />City Manager Lotter reported recovery and communication efforts to our residents began almost immediately <br />with city wide email notifications, web site collection of property damage and social media postings, which <br />were led by Deputy Fire Chief Trevor Hamdorf who was despite being on vacation for most of the recovery <br />process worked remotely to continue posting critical information. Deputy Chief Hamdorf since that time has <br />led the effort to coordinate and document storm response and recovery costs which could ultimately provide <br />for disaster reimbursements/assistance. The recovery efforts for the ongoing removal of trees and debris from <br />curbside locations have been led in a multi department partnership led by Chris Wolla and Scott Boller <br />following a decision made by City Council to serve the public by city funded curbside debris pickup. <br />City Manager Lotter indicated all of our City Departments including Finance, Community Development, <br />Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Administration and Public Safety have worked in partnership with the <br />end result of a quick response with no injuries to residents or responders, efficient cleanup efforts, high <br />customer service, and timely communication all for the benefit of our community. The Council offered a <br />round of applause to all staff members and commended them for their efforts during and after their storm. <br />2. He noted this year's event would be the 30' Annual event. He reported the City of New <br />Resolution No. 13 -056 <br />Brighton has been extremely successful with thirteen consecutive top five finishes in the nation for cities our <br />size. The City was asking for donations of both food and school supplies to the local Ralph Reeder food shelf <br />as more than 25,000 pounds of food has been collected since 2001. <br />Public Safety Director Jacobson commented 25 -30 backpacks have already been collected already.
