Department Reports <br /> A. Human Rights <br /> Nothing new to report. <br /> B. Allina Health <br /> For Dave Matteson's presentation/report, refer to Public Hearing/Presentation above. <br /> C. Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) <br /> Commissioner Woods presented the following items of note: <br /> • VIPS held their monthly meeting on September 24th. <br /> • VIPS assisted with the September Blood Drive; 27 units of blood were collected. Many <br /> donors return now as 17 have already signed up for the next Blood Drive which will be <br /> on November 12th <br /> • Shredding Day was well received with 186 cars using this service. <br /> • Fire Department Open House is scheduled for Monday, October 2g, rom 6-8 pm. <br /> VIPS will help with Kid ID and will be selling bike helmets. <br /> • VIPS will help distribute glow sticks and glow necklaces for use on Halloween. <br /> • SantaCop will be starting soon. VIPS assist Office McNeely with this program. <br /> • CERT Training took place on September 24th in two sessions covering Hazardous <br /> Materials Awareness and Blood Bourne Pathogen training. <br /> • The Graffiti Team will record the Public Safety Spotlight on October 29th which will <br /> cover graffiti removal. ' <br /> D. Public Safety/Homeland Security Update <br /> Deputy Director Paetznick gave an update the police officer hiring process. We are filling <br /> positions created by the retirement of Detective Sykes and the resignation of Officer Bengtson. <br /> The hiring process included the application process, a written test and interviews. Job offers <br /> have been made to Matthew Farmer, who will start later this week, and Ian Craig, who will start <br /> in a couple of weeks. There is also a 28th officer in the 2014 budget which would backfill for the <br /> Elementary School SRO and we anticipate at]list one retirement in 2014. <br /> Deputy Director Paetznive date on the fire fighter hiring process. For this application <br /> process, 35 applications were recei nd 34 applicants attended one of the mandatory <br /> informational meetings. Twenty-four plicants took the written testing with 22 passing the <br /> written test and moving on the physical agility testing which will be held this Saturday, October <br /> 5th <br /> Deputy Director Paetznick also noted that Officer Hyland has returned to work after completion <br /> of his military deployment. <br /> Council Liaison <br /> A.
