Even without any complaints <br />regarding the PEG fees, Comcast wants to reduce the funding to local networks. She reported Comcast was <br />recommending a 9% rate increase within their rate order. She did not understand how this would be wise <br />given the number of subscribers was declining due to poor customer service. <br />Councilmember Bauman stated it was her understanding that Comcast did not value local or community <br />cable programming. However, with CTV hours and programs on the rise, this was proving the opposite. She <br />appreciated Ms. Wilson for her dedication to community programming and for speaking on behalf of the <br />franchise cities. <br />Councilmember Burg discussed the community television programs that would be lost if Comcast got their <br />way with the franchise. Ms. Wilson stated she would continue to fight to keep local programming maintained <br />and operational. <br />Councilmember Stlub questioned which complaints should be brought to Comcast and which should be <br />directed to CTV. Ms. Wilson explained all calls should be directed to Comcast, but if matters are not <br />resolved, residents should contact CTV. <br />Mayor Jacobsen thanked Ms. Wilson for her service to the community. <br />3. Resolution No. 14-013. <br />Acting City Manager Jacobson explained Deputy Director Dan Olson and Crime Prevention Officer Trevor <br />Hamdorf would be presenting this item. <br />Deputy Director Dan Olson stated it was his honor to present the City of New Brighton with the 2013 <br />National Night Out 1 " Place in the Nation Award. He commended the City for their efforts. <br />Crime Prevention Officer Trevor Hamdorf discussed the high level of community involvement in National <br />Night Out stating the focus for 2013 was on protecting the future. He stated backpacks and school supplies <br />were collected this past August. He reported that over one ton of school supplies and 196 backpacks were <br />donated by local residents and businesses, along with two tons of food. He commented these efforts worked <br />to make the community stronger and he was proud to serve the City of New Brighton. <br />Motion by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Burg to adopt a <br />Resolution accepting the 2013 National Night Out 1St Place in the Nation Award on behalf <br />of the Residents and Businesses of the City of New Brighton. <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried <br />Consent Agenda <br />1.
