The North Metro area of Allina Health now has 4 supervisors and 120 direct reports for Mr. <br />Matteson. There are 29 ambulances with 21 ambulances on the street at peak times. <br />C. Volunteers in Public Safety (YIPS) <br />Commissioner Woods presented the following items of note: <br />• The monthly VIPS meeting will be tomorrow, November 26th <br />• The VIPS assisted at the Fire Department Open House where they sold bike helmets <br />and did KidID. There was a good crowd for this event. <br />• A fingerprinting retraining session was done. <br />• The blood drive on November 12th was a success. <br />D. Public Safety /Homeland Security Update <br />Director Jacobson reported our new Police Officer hires which include Matt Farmer and Ian <br />Craig are progressing well in their field training process. Officer- Farmer is anticipated to be <br />completed with his field training in mid to late January and Officer Craig will be completed in <br />early to mid February. Both are also fire fighters and we are happy to have them on board. <br />We have made conditional offers of employment to 10 paid on -call Firefighters. We will plan to <br />have them start early January pending successful backgrounds, physicals and psychological <br />evaluations. <br />We will have several police officers participating in "Tip a Cop" at Champps on Wed night from <br />5 to 8 pm. Officers will be assisting wait staff with serving food and beverages with "tips" being <br />contributed to Special Olympics. We will have 9 or 10 police staff participating in this event. <br />Commission Chair Robert Allen will conduct a year end report to Council at their regular <br />meeting on Tuesday, January 14th at 6:30 pm. Each Commission presents a year end report to <br />Council once each year. <br />On November 12th several Public Safety personnel received a Life Saving Award for their <br />response on July 21" to a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) at the regular City Council meeting. Mr. <br />George Mattson suffered the SCA and first responders including Officer Matt Voeller, Officer <br />Kathy McNeely, Sgt. Andy Masterman, Paramedic Ryan Dougherty, Paramedic Joseph <br />Gottwaldt, and Dispatcher Anton Fehrenbach worked together to ensure that Mr. Mattson <br />received prompt care. A shock was delivered with an AED and Mr. Mattson eventually survived <br />the SCA. Our department has had 3 "saves" since December 2012; Commissioner Woods' <br />granddaughter, Mr. Matteson, and another one not wanting recognition. <br />Council Liaison <br />A. Council Report <br />Council Member Bauman reported the Council will be going thru utilities; the Council reviews <br />each one. <br />The Council approved the 3rd quarter financial statements. <br />
