Councilmember Bauman asked if Cleveland would remain a four way stop at 35W. Mr. Horn stated this was
MnDOT's proposal.
Councilmember Burg commented that traffic along Cleveland Avenue at 35W was extremely difficult. She
questioned if this could be improved. Public Works Director Wyffels commented MnDOT had concerns about
putting in traffic signals given the grade change and sight distance issues. He discussed the current and future
capacity of the bridge. He indicated the real problem was the proximity of the ramp to Cleveland Avenue.
Councilmember Bauman believed that if the traffic congestion was alleviated on 35W, the problems on
Cleveland Avenue would be improved.
Public Works Director Wyffels indicated the Council will need to make a determination on lighting on the
north side of E2. He explained that two antiquated lift stations would be eliminated through this project and
would be replaced with one new lift station. He explained that CSI, Pulte Homes and other development in
NBE would create additional pressure along the roadways in New Brighton and the bridge improvements
would greatly assist the City. Staff further discussed a potential timeline for the bridge projects.
Councilmember Bauman thanked staff for the thorough review that was provided on these projects.
Worksession adjourned at 6:36 pm
