a. NBCC Traffic Flow At one of the neighborhood meetings, the traffic flow at the New Brighton Community Center came into discussion. The perception by some people is that the area in front is a round - about. It is not. It was felt that signage would help with traffic flow. A design was approved by Council. Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Hicks informed the Commission of the signage. Yield signs and pedestrian walk ways would be put in place. Also no parking lines would be placed at the west entrance in front of the entry way to ease pedestrian access to the ramp; especially in winter. Also, there will be no parking spot added on the east entrance as well. Signage will also be used to let people know there is a book drop off behind the library. IX. Announcements A. Council Report — Council Member Strub Council Member Strub reported on the following: • Projects on the New Brighton Exchange are coming soon; expansion of API facility, Pulte Homes will be breaking ground soon and CSI will be moving their corporate headquarters to the east side of Old Hwy. 8. • The Rice Creek Watershed District received a 3 million dollar grant to help with water improvements that affect Long Lake. Part of the project will be to dredge the pond in Hansen Park as flood control and also help water quality in Long Lake. • Council approved painting stripes at basketball courts in New Brighton. Parks and Recreation and Public Works staff will be working together on this project. B. Chair Updates Chair Frischman commented that the Commission just completed a parks tour. Matthew Justin, completed his scout project of installing a Totem Pole at Totem Pole Park. It has brought great value to the park. The project also included doing some staining, wood chips and other maintenance at the park. We thank him for all of his work at Totem Pole Park. C. Commission Reports on Parks No reports were given. D. Department Happenings / upcoming events Director Breuer commented that the meal PREC just had, was from Dairy Queen who has partnered with the Parks and Recreation Department and once per month donates 10% of their proceeds to the Parks and Recreation Department. The next date is June 17th. The Parks and Recreation Department encourages you and your family to stop in for a delicious sandwiches or one of their great salads. The partnership started in 2011. Because of the partnership, we have been able to provide nearly 100 scholarships for families. They have also donated T -shirts and blizzards for some events.
