( Report Number 14 -229
Ag enda Section VI -3
11CNhW
"-nUN Council Meeting Date September 9, 2014
the city Mal works for you
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: CONSIDERATION OF QUOTES FOR REPLACEMENT OF HEAVY
TRUCK HOIST AT PUBLIC WORKS AND PARKS MAINTENANCE FACILITY
DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: &i4w
CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL:
No comments to supplement this report Comments attached
Recommendation: Accept the quotatio&&m Lube Tech in the amount of $54,653.37 for the removal and
replacement of the heavy truck hoist at the Public Works and Parks Maintenance Facility.
Legislative History: The heavy truck hoist is scheduled to be replaced in 2014 and is included in the Public
Works Non -Fleet Replacement Plan.
Financial Impact: The following quotations were received for the heavy truck hoist and installation:
Parts Installation Total
Lube Tech $28,873.37 $25,780.00 $54,653.37
Pump and Meter Service Inc. $26,990.23 $31,862.91 $58,853.14
History: The existing heavy truck hoist was installed in 1992. This hoist is programmed with a 20 -year life.
Explanation: The purpose of this item is to obtain Council authorization to proceed with removal and
replacement of the heavy truck hoist at the Public Works Garage. The hoist is well worn and due for replacement.
Replacement parts are not readily available; safety stops do not work equally; and, it is only rated for 36,000
pounds. The new hoist will be longer to accommodate larger fire trucks and the new vacuum truck, and is rated
for 50,000 pounds.
To accommodate the larger 50,000 pound capacity lift, the existing hoist pit will need to be expanded. The
existing pit is constructed out of cement blocks. Since these blocks are not core filled, the contractor will remove
these existing blocks and pour a solid foundation wall completely around the new hoist pit. The cost of $7,280
for this work is included in the installation amount.
Costs and Funding: The cost for the work on the heavy truck hoist will be paid from the 2014 Non — Fleet
Replacement Fund. Additional costs will be incurred by an electrician to provide power, conduits, and wiring. A
total of $53,600 was the programmed budget for this project. This project is $1,053.37 over budget because of the
unaccounted for pit replacement work.
Going forward, $47,400 will be the projected replacement cost on a 20 year schedule.
A:24
Grant M.
