August 26, 2014 Page 7 of 8 <br />Councilinember Burg appreciated the work that went into the Crosswalk Safety Study by both staff, the <br />public and commission members. <br />Councilinember Strub was pleased that a crossing was proposed at Gregory and Old Highway 8. He <br />recommended this intersection remain a high priority for the City. <br />Councilinember Bauman did not believe it would be plausible to reduce the lanes on Old Highway 8 given <br />the businesses along this roadway. She supported the City addressing the safe routes to school for children <br />walking to schools in and around New Brighton. She was pleased that the City was reviewing the safety of <br />pedestrians from a well-rounded point of view addressing the engineering, education of the public, <br />encouraging attentive driving, along with the speed of traffic. <br />Mayor Jacobsen recommended the City's safe routes to school be plowed as quickly as the City's streets for <br />students walking to school in the winter months. This would move children away from the streets and onto <br />the sidewalks. <br />Motion by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Bauman to accept the Citywide <br />Crosswalk Safety Study; concur with the four Public Safety Commission motions made at the July 21, <br />2014 meeting; and direct staff to follow through with the implementation of the three major outcomes <br />of the study. <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays-Motion Carried <br />4. Consideration of Acceptance of Interim Financial Statements for the Second <br />Quarter of2014. Report No. 14-226. <br />City Manager Lotter indicated Interim Finance Director Mannetter would be presenting this item to the <br />Council. <br />Interim Finance Director Mannetter reviewed the second quarter financial statements with the <br />Council. He discussed the general fund revenues and expenditures, noting the City was on <br />target for intergovernmental revenues. He provided further comment on items over budget and <br />recommended the Council accept the second quarter 2014 financial statements. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen thanked Interim Finance Director Mannetter for his thorough report. <br />Councilmember Burg appreciated Interim Finance Director Mannetter for stepping in and <br />serving as the Finance Director. <br />Councilmember Bauman and Mayor Jacobsen agreed. <br />Motion by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Burg to accept the second quarter <br />2014 financial statements. <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays-Motion Carned <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reported last Friday staff was at federal court with the Army. He believed <br />progress was being made and discussions would continue. He indicated the 2015 budget <br />would be reviewed on September 2nd . He stated a large number of apartments on Silver Lane <br />have not paid their gas or electric bills. He explained staff resolved this issue with the property <br />owner to ensure that hundreds of renters in the City did not go without these utilities .
