Mr. Matteson reported Allina has had to make some deployment changes with the Highway 65 <br />road closure. New Brighton benefits from the ambulance cross traffic as calls come in and rigs <br />move. Mr. Matteson also reported the Allina event trailer is up and running. The event trailer <br />can be deployed for community events or weather disasters. <br />Mr. Matteson reported in September, Allina will participate in a HazMat drill with our <br />department which will involve police, fire and Allina. <br />Mr. Matteson noted Allina donated an old ambulance to Anoka County to be used as a mobile <br />forensics lab. <br />C. Volunteers in Public Safety (YIPS) <br />Commissioner Woods presented the following items of note: <br />• VIPS will be very busy with National Night Out and Stockyard Days coming up the <br />beginning of August. <br />• There will be a blood drive on September 4th at the Public Safety Center. <br />• VIPS will also participate in the HazMat exercise in September. <br />D. Public Safetv /Homeland Securitv Update <br />Director Jacobson reported we have hired a new Police Officer. Brianna Riedel took her Oath of <br />Office on Tuesday, July 15th. She has completed use of force and firearms training and will <br />begin her field training soon. She is our 28th officer. With the deployment of Officer Layton, we <br />are looking at hiring a temporary replacement. <br />The Civil Service Commission has approved a Sergeant promotional process which will be <br />conducted by Martin - McAllister and will be completed in September. This promotional process <br />will replace Sgt. Andy Masterman who retired in May. <br />Director Jacobson noted the 10 new firefighters, who started in January, continue to train. They <br />will complete Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and HazMat training. <br />Council Liaison <br />A. Council Report <br />Council Member Burg reported construction has begun on the new CSI building; they want to be <br />in the building by November. <br />Council Member Burg reported the bridges over 35W will be redone; 10th St and Hwy 96 in <br />2015 and County Rd E2 and County Rd H in 2016. <br />Pulte Homes is still working with the MCPA and hope to have everything resolved soon. <br />The new restaurant in Main Street Village is The Exchange Food & Drink and they hope to be <br />open in August. <br />
