Commissioner Schumann asked if the proposed recommendations would cost a lot to implement. <br />Mr. Wyffels stated some recommendations are not expensive and with some projects being on <br />county roads, that cost is being rolled into the county project. <br />Commissioner Allen asked if there were existing crosswalks that needed improvement. Mr, <br />Wyffels reported these improvements were within his area to handle so no recommendation <br />would be needed for that. <br />Commissioner Kocon asked if there were trails for kids to get to school, and if so, where. Mr. <br />Wyffels noted for example that right now, County Road E has no crosswalks so it is difficult for <br />kids to cross County Road E; Old Highway 8 is another example as, from an engineering <br />perspective, that road should be narrowed. Commissioner Woods asked if anything can be done <br />on County Road E before school starts. Mr. Wyffels stated yes. <br />Commissioner Lamp made a motion to approve and accept the July 21, 2014 Citywide <br />Crosswalk Safety Study as submitted to the Public Safety Commission; seconded by <br />Commissioner Woods. Motion carried. <br />Commissioner Lamp made a motion to direct staff to develop a general crosswalk policy; <br />seconded by Commissioner Woods. Motion carried. Commissioner Schumann asked if there <br />were resources for this already out there. Mr. Wyffels stated there are policies out there that can <br />be tailored to New Brighton and it doesn't need to be very long. <br />Commissioner Woods made a motion to authorize Public Works to install the appropriate <br />crosswalks along County Road E between Old Highway 8 and Silver Lake Road; seconded by <br />Commissioner Boyd. Motion carried. <br />Commissioner Donohue made a motion to authorize Engineering to review the crosswalk at <br />Silver Lake Road near the railroad tracks and direct staff to follow -up with Ramsey County to <br />review the same crosswalk; seconded by Commissioner Woods. Motion carried. <br />Updates <br />A. Citizen Corps Council <br />Director Jacobson reminded everyone that National Night Out is Tuesday, August 5t ". We will <br />be collecting donations of food, back packs, and school supplies again this year for the Food <br />Shelf. <br />Department Reports <br />A. Human Rights <br />No report. <br />B. Allina Health <br />Mr. Dave Matteson, Allina Health, reported Allina exited their lease in Arden Hills on June 30'. <br />They are still looking at sites to fit their needs. Mr. Matteson reported he spoke to Ms. Janice <br />Gundlach, City Planner, to see what would be expected if a New Brighton site is identified. <br />
