Storm Sewer-Grading
1. The plans need to indicate how the roof drainage will be collected prior to discharge to the proposed
filtration basin. Additional outfall protection may be necessary at the outlet based on the actual
design.
2. The HWL of the proposed filtration basin should be shown on the plans. The engineer shall indicate
the final rate of discharge from this basin to 5th Avenue for various storm events. With the current
design the overflow width is shown as 5 feet. After reviewing the rates of discharge staff may require
that an overflow MH is provided in lieu of the proposed overland overflow.
3. The proposed underdrain shall be connected to City storm sewer at an elevation to avoid utility
conflicts. The contractor will need to coordinate specifics of this connection with Scott Boller, PW
Supervisor(whom will also inspect the connection).
4. A permit will be required from the Rice Creek Watershed District, any soil borings that are required for
Watershed submittal should be forwarded to the City for our records.
Watermain
1. The watermain system within the site is to be considered private and shall be constructed and
maintained by the property owners. A permit will be required for all sewer and water connections and
shall be inspected by Public Works.
2. The Fire Marshall/City Code Inspector will review the hydrant and post indicator valve locations and
provide comments as necessary.
3. The engineer shall add the existing watermain on the eastern end of the site to the plans. Several
valves exist in this area and adjustments should be shown as required. The existing valves shall be
visible upon site completion and not located within the curb line.
4. The building utilizes a joint domestic and fire service line. The owner/mechanical engineer will need
to verify internal size requirements.
5. The draintile along the eastern edge of the site may need to be relocated based on the location of the
existing watermain.
6. The owner/engineer will need to obtain a permit from MnDOLI for watermain construction and internal
plumbing design.
Sanitary Sewer
1. Indicate the inverts of the existing sanitary sewer line adjacent to 5th to insure that proper cover will be
provided near the proposed excavation of the filtration basin.
2. The sanitary sewer services are to be considered private and shall be constructed and maintained by
the property owners. A permit will be required for all sewer and water connections and shall be
inspected by Public Works. It is unclear at the time of review how the existing sewer service enters
the building. A sewer clean out should be added prior to the service entering the building
3. In discussion with the contractor plans indicate connection to the existing sewer service with a clean-
out. The sanitary sewer service material and grades need to meet MnDOLI and MPCA requirements.
