TPP proposes to continue to monitor the issues confronting the freight industry,
working closely with MnDOT to support the economic vitality of the region.
• Chapter 9: Pedestrians and Bicyclists, supports and coordinates efforts to strengthen
walking and bicycling, modes which are part of the total transportation picture and work
well for shorter trips.
System Plan Considerations Affecting the City of New Brighton
1. Metropolitan Highways
There are two principal arterials located within the city of New Brighton: 1-35W and 1-694.
The updated TPP shows the bridge on CR E2 over 1-35W as requiring investment before 2018.
The 2004 TPP did not show any planned improvements to 1-694 west of 1-35W; neither does the
updated plan. The interchange at I-35W and 1-694 has recently been modified to create an
auxiliary lane/safety lane as a lower-cost/high-benefit project.
The 2004 TPP did not show any planned improvements to 1-35W. The updated TPP contains a
managed lane system vision. Construction of a managed lane on 1-35W between downtown
Minneapolis and the 95th Av exit is shown as a priority in this plan. More information can be
found in Table 6-35 in the TPP.
2.Transit Routes and Facilities
As shown in Fig. 7-43, New Brighton lies within the 1-35W N transitway. The mode and
alignment for this corridor have not yet been determined.
New Brighton is also within the 1-35W N express bus corridor.
The city of New Brighton lies within the following Transit Market Areas:
• Transit market Area 2. Typical services for this market area include express, urban
radial, urban crosstown, and suburban local.
• Transit Market Area 3. Typical services for this area include express, urban radial,
suburban local, circulators, and general public dial-a-ride.
3.Aviation
There are no airports or aviation facilities within New Brighton.
